Oregon’s Oldest Business, Est. 1849

Van Dusen Companies is the oldest business in the State of Oregon, tracing its roots back to 1849 when Adam & Caroline Van Dusen established a general store in downtown Astoria.

The Van Dusen Family of Today

Today, the Van Dusen family is led by Willis L. Van Dusen, who served on Astoria’s City Council for 30 years, including 24 years as Mayor of Astoria. He is joined by his children, Willis Jr. and Trudy, who share his vision and passion for Astoria and the surrounding community.

The Van Dusen family has not only been successful in various industries, such as soft drink bottling, hospitality, and over 100 years in insurance (ending in 1977), but also hopes to preserve the heritage and unique character of Astoria for the future.
